Pardon…Olympic champion for backgammon the world’s gone mad!!!

But hold on, maybe that’s not such a crazy idea after all, backgammon does require skill to play and it requires a certain dedication as well as an energy and a desire to win… all good elements of a potential Olympic Champion; but the idea that you could play backgammon, to win a Gold Medal and become an Olympic Champion, well that does not sound possible does it?

Hang on the Olympics came from Greece originally and there are links to backgammon in ancient Greek history, so maybe it is possible that whilst the athletes or Olympians were waiting to chuck the discuss, or throw the hammer or leap across sand pits, they could have paused to play a game of backgammon, indulging not only their physical prowess in the events but their mental abilities too.

So it became a sort of warm up exercise for the gray matter as well as the body.

Not a bad idea, either, getting you in the right frame of mind before you compete. And just supposing that they thought well if we are going to compete in the Olympics with these other events maybe we should have a backgammon event too! So backgammon as an Olympic event may well have already been included in past Olympics.

This is hypothetical of course but there is a train of thought in the USA that video games and indeed online games in general including back gammon could become Olympic events in their own right.
