Some Basic Backgammon Jargons

Golden Point

The 4-point and 5-point on the opponent's home board is called Golden point. If one forms an anchor in the golden point, it is said to be an advanced anchor.

Key point

Key points are the most important strategic points on the board. The Bar point and 5-point on the opponent?s home board are called the Key points.

Priming Game

Some players play the game with the key objective of building primes to hinder the opponent?s movement. These are called the priming game. A priming game can be very costly, if one does NOT have sufficient time in accordance to the progress of the game.

Pure Game

Running Game

Loose Play

When several checkers are hit and sent back to the bar, it is said to be loose play for that player. Loose play can become fatal with the progress of the game.

This is a very strategic movement by the players. At times, the player likes to get his checker hit and restart. As one hit places the checker on the bar with the same rigmarole of bringing the checker into the board and then bearing off is necessary, this decision may be very costly at times.
