Playing Backgammon - 5 Easy Pieces

1: The Running Game

2. The Holding Game

3. The Priming Game
More complex as this requires building a 6-long wall of checkers, or as long as you can manage, to block the opponent's checkers behind the blockade. Build anywhere between 11-point and your 2-point, then shuffle it into your home board as the game moves on.

4. The Blitz
Close your home board as quick as possible while your opponent stays on the bar. Then if your opponent rolls an early 2 and moves one checker from your 1-point to your 3-point and you roll a 5-5, you can play 6/1 6/1 8/3 8/3. At this point he is now in serious trouble because they have 2 checkers on the bar and you have closed half your home board!

5. The Backgame
This is the game where you employ Anchors ! (An anchor is a point occupied by at least 2 of your checkers. Where you have 2 or more anchors in your opponent's home board.) Anchorplacings are best used towards your opponent's lower point and either on adjacent points or with a single point in between.
