The Magnificent Seven or when it's best to use a roll-over:

* The opposition has a roll that will allow him to double you out.
* Your own roll allows the opposition to double you out.
* You have a 70 percent chance of putting the opponent into a deep hole and miss it.
* They roll double 4s, 5s or 6s in a straight race.
* They get a 1-in-18 or 1-in-36 roll ouch!
* You have at least two men to bear off with just a couple rolls left in a game.
* They bear off more than two men with just a couple rolls left in the game.

Finally do not leave it too to use your roll-over.
Always use your roll-over before you are doubled out.
Use roll-over in conjunction with a backgammon doubling strategy.
Decide on a roll-over when deciding whether to double or whether to accept a double.

There are 36 possible rolls; a player has a 1-in-36 chance of rolling a particular double such as 5-5 and a 1-in-18 chance of rolling a specific combination such as 6-3 or 3-6.

In certain cases a 1-in-18 roll by the opposition leaves you in a critical position where he is well ahead or has cut your lead to shreds.
