Only two states in the nation — Utah and Hawaii — do not have some form of legalized gambling. In Oregon, many consumer choices are available through off-track betting, casinos, video poker, video slot machines, Powerball, Keno and myriad scratch tickets.
Now, Marion County health educators, in conjunction with the Oregon Department of Human Services, are conducting their own study of teens as part of the Oregon Healthy Teens survey given to teens in the 8th and 11th grades. The results were “startling,” said Yvonne Lawver, a prevention health educator for Marion County.

For me, this is alarming. Kids are now getting addicted in gambling and that might not be good for their financial stability in the future. |

In my opinion personality plays an important role and it does not matter whether the player is still a teen or an adult. One needs to know one's limitations in every aspect so that one may stop playing or gambling at the right time eventually.

I would be willing to bet the teens that have problems with knowing when to stop, also have parents with the same problems. Not to say thats the case everytime or anything.

It is worrying that children get involved in gambling so early in life. However, as it is impossible to keep an eye on them 24/7, they should be taught to control themselves. It is easier said than done though as even adults have problems when it comes to gambling.

I believe with teens spending more and more time online, it's inevitable that they're eventually going to at least try gambling. It's too out there for people to be so naive as to think they can protect their children from it. Parents can only try to monitor what their teens are doing as best they can, and then hope for the best. You can't watch them 24/7. Basically, you raise your kids with the best values you can possibly give them, thats about all you can do.
