Is PokerSnowie Really Good for Online Poker?
All the talk over the past few months (much of it done by me) has been centred on PokerSnowie and its artificial intelligence and GTO coaching. For those of you that are not familiar with PokerSnowie then let me fill you in. It is a fully automated poker coach and trainer that analyses your poker play using the latest GTO (Game Theory Optimal) tactics.
It is designed by the makers of Snowie Backgammon who conquered that particular game and designed the best backgammon program in the world and one that could compete with and beat the very best in the world.
The fact that they have turned their attention to poker is alarming a few people and in my view without good reason. The fact of the matter is this, anyone can go onto their site and see what they have to offer and see what they have to say. Further facts point to the fact the overwhelming majority of online poker players simply do not make money anyway.
The stats seem to indicate that this figure is at least 90% and probably 95%. Even many of the ones that do make money do not make much and so the arrival of PokerSnowie is not going to affect them either…….or at least not in a negative way. So here we have a product that can only serve to help the overwhelming majority of people that use it. To be able to get your hands on a totally automated poker coach who will be there for you 24/7 is a gigantic leap forward in the world of poker.
For the first time a player will be able to learn how to play a style that is not exploitable and this alone will increase their longevity as a poker player. This helps them immensely and also the poker site as it helps them to make more money from having players hang around for longer without losing money to the sharks and +EV players.
So I do not believe for one minute that PokerSnowie will be bad for the online poker eco system when it can only help the vast majority of players to get better. The people that it will hinder are the very people that online poker can really do without and they are the professionals and semi-professionals. These people drain money from the eco system and do not ever place that money back into circulation.
The cycle goes something like this……online sites spend huge sums of money to attract new players. These players either make money or they don’t but when they lose their money to the site then the site makes a profit and thus continues to advertise and bring in new players.
However it is when money is being drained to winning players that this then hurts the losing players and the site as well overall. So it is in the majority interest to have players playing better poker and there is no better coach for that purpose in my opinion at this time than PokerSnowie.
Carl Sampson is a professional poker player who plays online at 888poker.
