Fixed or pot limit games are better for new and beginning players. You don't really want to risk everything in one hand, without really knowing what you're doing, right?
Hold'em is one of the most popular variations right now, but its also considered one of the more difficult (especially no-limit hold'em)
The real question is whether or not you want to play online or in a real card room. Playing online, you have to read your opponent's betting patterns to estimate the strength of their hand in relation to yours. In a room, you'll have physical cues and "tells" to read from your opponents, along with betting patterns.
There are online poker programs that use fake money to help people learn the game before they want to risk using real money. I'd recommend that first.
I think that no limit Texas Hold'em is where you want to start out.
Let's face it, that is THE GAME these days. Any card room in the world is going to be spreading at least one of these games. And if you took an average, I'd say it is certainly the most common game.
Fixed limit games, may be 'safer' but with less ability to control the pot odds you lose some of the control that makes no limit so much more fun.
And pot limit doesn't really offer a novice player any special protection or help, but also introduces new complications.
So I would get a new player to play no limit Texas Hold'em for very low stakes and build from there. I am not a believer in having them play an easier game first. That's like refusing to teach someone to play chess until they have mastered checkers.
Hey good to hear that. Had a great interest on poker. I suggest that for starters to learn some statistical and mathematical tactics. Here luck doesn't play a major role. So, you need to take some professional help for tactics.There's no wrong in that.
I suggest no limit hold em. Because it easier to understand than the other and it's a lot more fun. I suggest to practice in play money tables get used to the betting frequency of players, and familiarise yourself with the hand ranks.
Omaha or Seven card stud will be my next choices both limit. Same advice as above.
