if you want to know how to play poker, your best bet is to learn from online poker. there are many different playing styles. the most common styles are: a) aggressive or b) conservative
a) to play aggressively, you will most likely have to play every hand you get. bet in moderate to large amounts at a time. aggressive players are more likely to bluff try to "scare" off the other people. i do not recommend playing aggressively when you have less chips than other people, because you have less money and is therefore not a threat even if you all-in (they can still survive even if you win)
b) conservative players chooses their starting hands, usually nothing below 10-9 off-suit. this is a style that is more "careful" because people who use this style of play most likely will not bluff and only bets in small to moderate amounts of money. they are usually connected with the "slow-play" which means checking even if you have a good hand to appear weak to the other players and make them bet. if they do that you can either wait a short while to look like you're thinking hard whether to call or not (again, trying to trick the other player that you have a weak hand) or you can go over the top and raise his bet; this is called a "check-raise"
seasoned players will always switch their styles to keep you guessing so be careful and good luck
