I have a weekly poker game with buddies and we have an ongoing issue w/ wild cards. We play a lot of 7 card poker games (like baseball) where the 3's and 9's are wild. When dealing out the cards, and a 3 comes up (and is the only card showing for that person) is it immediately wild or does it only have value on the second round when another card is dealt next to it?
It doesn't really matter - I suppose it's wild when you first reveal it, but that only means that for the moment, it's any card you need it to be. If you needed to state who was "ahead" at the end of the first deal, it would be the person with the wild card, since he's got an automatic pair, at the very least.
It's like a blank tile in Scrabble. It has no value, until you NEED it to take the place of another letter. So it's all in how you look at it. If you don't need a wild card in your hand (not sure why you wouldn't need it though..) then it's just a 3.
But then again, if you had three 3's, and 3's are wild, why wouldn't you call that 3 aces?
