I happen to have a strange psychic ability to dream the future - and well, I just dreamed that the next president is.... (I'm not telling). So is there a legitimate way for me to place a small bet just for the fun of it?

I'll take your action. As long as you are betting on McCain.

There are a plethora of online gambling websites that give odds. When I checked it was like 6/4 on Obama or you put up $6 to win $4. This was a few weeks ago though.

There are a couple of legal issues regarding banks processing money for offshore gambling, but there are no federal laws that prohibit gambling.

In Washington state there is a law that makes it illegal for people to gamble online, but no one has been prosecuted.

why not share some of this predictive ability in a controlled environment? Smile

I think James Randi has a standing offer of $1 million cash to anyone that can do so.

If you are so sure, then wouldn't you want to bet everything possible anyway? After all, it is likely to be close, that means you have only a slightly better then 50% chance of being right or wrong, and so the payoff will be low on any bet, as the bet itself is pretty close to chance.

If you are so psychic, you can do waaaaay better then chance - bet your house, your friends house, bet everything!

If you place your bet in a jurisdiction that allows gambling through a licensed gambling business, then yes. Many casinos in Las Vegas and Atlantic City do allow you to place bets on elections, sporting events, and even the outcome of famous trials.

Note to Barry: Randi requires that the psychic abilities be proven enough consecutive times to preclude the possibility of chance. They would need to predict more than just the outcome of one election to win the $1 million prize. They would also need to hurry since Randi has announced the that contest will be ending in the next few years.
