There are many free sites where you can play holdem for fun chips if you are 18 or over.
Pokerstars is a good one, or Partypoker, or Absolutepoker.
They have open play or tournaments.

I lost every time I played so I hate all card games because they are boring and I don't get to shoot people... like I do on a computer.
but remember to work on your poker face! I sucked at my poker face. And also remember how the betting works. If you're the big blind then you might as well play anyway.

just keep playing in real life situations. Learn to read people and think how others would think. Think objectively about why your opponents do what they do.
Hope that helps!

Read "Super System" by Doyle Brunson. Also, check out "Caro's Book of Poker Tells."

Watching the WPT is not going to help you increase your poker skills. The televised events only show the final table of 6 players. It does not show you the skill those players used to out last the other 400-900 players to make it to the final table.
By the time the players make it to the final tables, the blinds/antes are so large that you have to start playing many hands you would not even consider playing early on in the tournament. Also, the players become more aggressive and start going after and stealing the blinds
The best way to increase your skills is study the game. Pick up the books by Sklansky, Harrington ("Harrington on Hold Em'), and Doyle Brunson. Read these books from cover to cover.
A skill you MUST develop is the ability to calculate pot odds. Over the long run playing based on pots will make you a consistent winner.

You need to get some poker software to analyse your game and show you your weaknesses.
You can get one for free at http://free-bankroll.co.uk/#deposit when you sign up to some sites.

Your best beet will to be play the players, not your cards. How you can do this? well take your time, and be ready to be super patient.. If you raise pre with JJ and u get reraised/called then another guy goes all in... you gotta think you are already behind (just an example)
A very popular mistake online players make is getting impatient... What you NEED to realize right away is how many hands per hour (hph) are being dealt... There are MILLIONS of hands a day, so the odds of "anything" happening is very plausible..
There are a few articles in my sig that I am updating to reflect the vast array of hand outcomes that face all online players..
Be ready for the UPS and the DOWNS

Your best bet is to play a lot and read a lot about strategies. Search the internet for online poker sites as there are tons. My favourite online poker room is Cake Poker which allows US players. Play for fun or real money, doesn't matter and concentrate while playing
