I personally would document - and try for custody of the kids. I don't think any child deserves to live like that. I think all kids should have safe - and loving homes. this definately doesn't sound like one. There is nothing you can do about the child support - she has to provide a roof over their head- and i'm sure that is what the courts will look at -
but - If you can - I would try to custody - maybe then she might think about cleaning up her act...
If you can't afford to try to custody - the most you can do is be the best step-mom you can be when the kids are there - maybe soon they will be at an age where they will choose to live with you.
